Spending all his time around cars\, he quickly began to learn repairing under the watchful eye of his father\, Norman\, and Grandfather\, Leonard. After graduating high school\, Dave began working full time at the garage and has dedicated his life to the family business ever since. He is now the 5th generation owner of Standley's Garage.\n\n Founded by Dave's great great Uncle\, Horace Standley\, it has been standing with pride at the corner of Beach and Summer since 1870. Beginning as a blacksmith shop\, Horace shoed horses and repaired carriages for locals and travelers who summered here. By 1915\, the demand for automobile repair became steady and Horace recruited his two sons\, Wes and Chester\, to help continue the family business. Chester took on blacksmithing\, and his brother Wes (Dave's great uncle) worked on automobiles. They worked side by side until around 1930 when most horse drawn carriages were phased out.
