SUMMARY:The People Living on Cape Ann at the Time of European Contact
DESCRIPTION:This presentation by Mary Ellen Lepionka will address these questions: Who were the Native people of Cape Ann in the 17th Century\, where did they come from\, and how were they living in Essex and surrounding areas during French exploration and English settlement? We have popular stories - mostly legends and myths - about "our" Indians\, but who\, really\, was the person we refer to as Masconomet\, and how did his leadership contribute to the survival of Native people? What ideas do we need to change to achieve a truer story of the past? What legacies of Native occupation remain here all around us today?\n\n$5 Members/$10 Nonmembers
