Description
THIS IS A RESCHEDULED DATE DUE TO WEATHER
Cape Ann is known worldwide for its exciting concentrations of winter seabirds. Thousands of birders visit the rugged coast of Cape Ann and scan the adjacent waters hoping to spot some of the unusual and highly sought-after seabirds that spend the winter months just offshore. The best way to get to see these birds and experience them up close is to visit them in their natural habitat- on the ocean!
On this trip, we will be visiting one of New England’s most productive marine habitats: Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. Stellwagen Bank is best known for its large concentrations of whales which attract eager whale watchers each spring through fall. However, the activity continues all year long! Even in winter, many species of marine wildlife can be seen, and while this trip will focus primarily on the birds of Stellwagen Bank, the possibility certainly exists that we may sight non-avian marine wildlife as well, including whales just returning from the Caribbean! In prior years, we have seen seabirds, whales, and dolphins!
This year, we’re bringing back this highly anticipated excursion in a safe and healthy environment. The boat will be operating at less than half capacity and we will also require physical distancing and face coverings for all. We also ask that each guest provide their own lunch and beverages. Hand sanitizer will be plentiful. Please note that we are closely monitoring state –re-opening guidelines and will notify participants of any changes which could alter plans for the birding boat trip. The safety of our birders is our top priority!
