100 Years of Adventure: Gloucester’s Iconic Schooner to Sail in New York and Boston in 2026

Gloucester, MA — January 14, 2026 — Schooner Adventure, Gloucester’s iconic historic sailing vessel, is proud to announce its participation in Sail New York and Sail Boston 2026, two major maritime celebrations taking place as part of the national Sail250® commemorations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. These high-profile events will coincide with a major milestone of their own: 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Schooner Adventure.

Built in 1926 in Essex, MA as a working fishing schooner, Adventure will join an international fleet of tall ships and historic vessels sailing into New York Harbor from July 3-9, 2026 for Sail 4th, followed by Sail Boston 2026, taking place July 11–16, 2026, in Boston Harbor. The events will feature parades of sail, public ship tours, and waterfront programming celebrating America’s maritime heritage and future.

“Participating in Sail New York and Sail Boston during our centennial year is especially meaningful,” said Emily Pearce, Executive Director of Schooner Adventure. “For 100 years, Adventure has been part of the working and cultural fabric of New England’s waterfront. To celebrate her legacy alongside the nation’s 250th anniversary is a powerful reminder of the enduring role of sail in our shared history.”

As part of the Sail250® initiative, these events are expected to draw millions of visitors and showcase historic ships, modern tall vessels, naval ships, and educational programming focused on seamanship, maritime trades, and environmental stewardship.

Throughout 2026, Schooner Adventure will commemorate her centennial anniversary with special sails, public programs, and community celebrations, inviting new generations aboard to experience traditional sailing firsthand.
