Gloucester, MA — The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck Art Colony is pleased to present Just Looking: A Collection of Drawings and Musings by artist Linda Kauss. The event will take place on Thursday, April 23 from 5–7 PM, featuring a reading by the artist alongside an exhibition of the original artwork from her newly published book.

Originally from the Midwest and now based in Rockport, MA, Kauss is a multidisciplinary artist working in charcoal, pen and ink, pastels, watercolor, printmaking, and sculpture. Her deepest passion, however, lies in graphite drawing—a medium she credits with unlocking her most intuitive and creative expression.

Just Looking is a deeply personal collection that began in 2005 as an exercise in creative play. With no predetermined outcome, Kauss explored the movement of graphite and the subtle power of erasure, allowing organic forms to emerge. What followed were unexpected, evocative images—moments of discovery that shaped a lifelong artistic practice rooted in intuition, light, and balance.

As her work evolved, interest grew from organizations in the health and wellness field. While exploring publication, Kauss faced a serious health challenge that paused the project—but not her creative spirit. She continued to draw, ultimately returning to the idea of the book with renewed purpose. In 2025, with encouragement from her artistic community, Just Looking became a reality.

“Every page invites a quiet searching,” says Nella Lush, President of the Experimental Art Group. “There is a deep presence within her work—something both meditative and profoundly moving.”

Kauss is an artist member of Rocky Neck Art Colony, Rockport Art Association & Museum, North Shore Art Association, and the Experimental Art Group. Her work is also exhibited at The Salted Cod Art House.

The public is warmly invited to attend this special evening to meet the artist, hear selected readings, and view the artwork behind the book. Copies of Just Looking will be available for purchase and signing.
